Any ideas what might be wrong with these cucumbers. I have 6 plants all doing the same thing - maybe this is normal (first time gardener). It has been a couple of weeks they have been like this.

There could be many reasons why this is happening Mat...

It could be a virus that has affected all the plants either soil borne or carried by chewing/sucking insects. The leaf curl and I'm assuming not growing very well or really slowly are signs of a virus.

I don't think the leaf distortion would be caused by a pest such as mites but it's possible. I can't see signs of fertiliser burn, overwatering, root rot, fungal diseases, or water or heat stress but it's not easy sometimes to diagnose these things.

Sometimes the plants eventually come good - often it's best to rip them out and start again in a new spot.

Did you sow the seed directly or transplant out into the garden?

Thanks Mark. They are sown into trays then transplanted - I have an issue with local critters eating off all the seedlings if I sow direct (down near Boonah SEQ).

Bad soil would not surprise me - I just built some temporary raised beds out of old hay bails and filled with hay/topsoil from some earthworks we have had done on the block. I'll leave them and see if they come good eventually.

Thanks for your show by the way - hard to find advice that matches a sub-tropical climate. Gave me the confidence to give it a go.

I agree with Mark. Looks like a mosaic virus (no cure leaves will turn yellow also) it is spread by insects mostly aphids. Fruit will be affected also. Best to remove affected plants and burn, disinfect garden tools used aswell.
