harvested today 11 x 22 tray shown is only 2/3 of what i cut i had already pack half again the amount shown in ziplock bag and taken to neighbor, 1 gallon water jugs direct behind to give reference to amount

Mignonette bronze
a nice, sweet flavor with crisp texture and slight soft butter tone to back ground, very heat resistant slow to bolt and old heirloom out of Siberia part of the butter head class family

Red salad bold
especially tender, with sweet and spicy tones , distinctive red to purple leaves with an oakleaf shape , very slow to bolt

Black seeded simpson
fastest lettuces to maturity , durable greens, and will show good resistance to heat, cold, infestation and other potential problems , bright green leafs mildly sweet very juicy very nice salad lettuce

Oakleaf
loose leaf types can be sensitive to excessive heat and light, which may result in bolting, or wilting leaves. This variety is commonly used in salads and sandwiches, has a buttery texture and an incredibly mellow, nutty and sweet flavor


Buttercrunch
known for their slow to bolt, and the taste is sweet, mild, and complex very subtle 'buttery' taste with a velvety texture to leaf part of the butter head class family

Do you know of any that don't go bitter too quickly? Anytime I grow lettuce it's bitter or bolts on me really quickly. They definitely don't look as good as yours.

as mentioned a while back bitterness can be two things too hot or stress and plants bolting, stress to a plant with lack of water will also bring out bitter and astringent tones. A direct drip irrigation at plant could be of use to insure enough water , plant where shaded during hottest mid day sun or place under a fine netting to shade or other plants were it is cooler and shaded, plant so they mature in coolest time of year. harvest when leafs are smaller and stagger plantings so you have younger lettuces leafs to harvest, also try any of a number of the butterhead group of lettuce they tend to be less bitter , less apt to bolt and more heat tolerant so try the Mignonette bronze or Buttercrunch

depends how fast they ripen if the whole batch ripens i take full vine because it will trigger them to grow more shoot. another 3 days they should all be ready or close enough to take vine. today on left and right hand pic is some from last christams

a little post for you Mandy was mixing my raw concentrate this morning so tossing up a few snapshot , plus a picture of the lettuce coming back after last weeks cut, the new light and fluid system working better then i expected almost too good .... i am waiting for something to malfunction as per Murph's law

show are the 3 main ingredients ( 48 gram )Calcium nitrate 15.5-0-0 , ( 24 gram ) Epsom salt , ( 48 gram ) 4-18-38 masterblend fertilizer final mix =19.5-18-38, concentrated solution to mix for 20 gallon total. 4 oz into and water to make a gallon for full strength - 1 oz and water to make a gallon for young seedlings

this is the concentrate, 4 oz of it in a gallon so 2.4 gram of the calcium nitrate and the 4-18-38 and 1.2 gram of Epsom salt per gallon of liquid which equals on par with a rich soil for nutrients and micro nutrients, the lettuce is slightly weaker 2-2-1 gram

so here is this morning the lettuce in first this is third growth now , the black seeded simpson at very front is getting leggy on its regrowth so about time to rotate it out or take them a little faster

the tomatoes oops i robbed a few last night across 6 plants i had 17 nice size cherry tomatoes for a salad, a taste and flavor you wont find in the hybrid crosses today; juice, sweet, with a very rich tomatoes taste and very low acidity, if you want a nice tomatoes even if only for a patio planter to give color and snap to a visual this tiny tim heirloom variety is well worth growing

and third picture is maginonette bronze lettuce another heirloom a butterhead type part of the same family as buttercrunch .

you can see to the back a few spots i moved plants around ready to put new ones in. i am also putting the tiny tim tomatoe into 1 gallon water jugs they are easir t get at then current spot, i didnt think ahead and how i have them now is difficult to polinate

been away a few days back now a kid first time driving winter weather , as i came out of store he came around the corner in shopping park lot and ooopss.... threw me back into one of those concrete and steel security post in front of entryways

but little update i did final the cut on the black seed simpson at from of lettuces it was at point after three cuts of ready to bolt and harvested 3 dozen tiny tims for salads this evening other lettuces doing well and will probably get and couple full cuts before they will drop off on being viable total amount harvested now at just under a total of 19 lbs
