ok so here is a fast run over of how i make the started pots for my hydroponics.

i purchase food grade ( agricultural grade ) rockwool also called stonewool in a solid sheet i cut into cube with serrated knife like used for bread, final size for these 1 3/8 square and 2 3/4 tall so once i insert them in the net pot i use i do trim off the little bit that sticks above top with the knife
36 x 12 x 3 in. - Classic Grow Slab - Stonewool - Grodan 713015 $30.59
Tmtamye 100 Pack 2 inch Net Pots Hydroponics Supplies Cups

i use simple blue painter tape to seal off the top so less algae will grow on top and keep light for penetrating down into roots and nutrient below

3d printed a cover i can pop on as a guide to cut slit in the tape and aproxmately 1/4 deep into the stonewool, I have a plastic skewer i peel back top and dibble a hole for seed at the center of cross cuts

i drop these into a 40DR pill vial i bought from my local pharmacy cant remember now but i think i pad $20 usd for 75 of them
here is net pot place in vial to show the water leve i maintain while soaking and as the seeds sprout

and how well to plant respond you may ask these are 4 1/2 weeks after starting seeds ( tiny tim drawf tomato )

same plant 5 1/2 week and 6 1/2 weeks

was at this point they were transfered to their final area
