That's so nice! I always wished it was something we did growing up, but sadly it wasn't in the cards for us. To be fair, where I come from (The Netherlands - the Holland part) is overpopulated and having a house with a garden was a luxury. We had a small yard, and dad had a small pear tree, rhubarb and sometimes some strawberries growing. My mom's growing chives, but to be fair she's never looked at them twice and they thrive on their own.
It's so gratifying to be able to grow your own produce, and work with the land. I'm currently clearing a space to put a raised bed garden in as well. My mother-in-law gifted us 2 raised beds a couple of years ago by now, but I've never had the space to put them in somewhere. Only downside is that it's near the septic tank.
We all learn and grow together, and the world is a much better place when you open your mind and arms to one another.
Near where I live nowadays there's a small community stall. I've of recent been dropping our excess passionfruit there, and got some lemons in return.
