Yeah @Steve I spent way too much time at Nungas over the years unfortunately :)

I never saw a snake there though which is surprising since they were pretty common in that area!

Maybe that's why they call the SGTs mess the "Snake Pit" :D

Now that you mention it I don't think i ever saw a snake there either on the few times I ventured to Nungas. Plenty of snakes in the Snake Pit though. ha!
My new house is only 10-15 minutes from there so it will be interesting to see how many snakes I see.

how about getting some guinea fowl they are supposed to scare snakes away?
Funny you should mention that, someone was just telling me on the weekend how protective guinea fowl are. They're like watch dogs apparently! :dog:

Yeah that's what I've heard too... They sure look "busy" and tend to make their presence known but they keep their distance if you approach them - I see them every day and run past'em on my jogs. I don't think guinea fowl are an aggressive bird towards humans at all, however, I can see how they might annoy a predator like a snake if it came along.

Hey @Ash how about getting some guinea fowl they are supposed to scare snakes away?

That'll be a great idea. Might get them as well as chooks (if they can cohabit) and let them roam around the property in the day.

I just have to get the time to build that chicken run...

Oh well, if they're a nuisance in your garden you can always leave your downstairs door open overnight. My office last Friday.... :0

Lived in the Adelaide Hills for 40 years snake heaven. Common Brown . We found that having short grass & a dog run around the house kept the snakes away from the house. In the veggie garden which was next to a creek there were plenty of snakes & I found it was very easy to get them to leave by hosing them with water. You can direct them by a stream of water.
When I first moved there I was terrified of snakes. If I saw one I would scream & run away. Then one hot summer's day I did the scream & run away 20 times & after the 20th time I just didn't care anymore. I don't like them but the don't worry me anymore.
I worked at the Royal Adelaide Hospital for many years & every so often we would get someone in with snake bite & everytime they were trying to kill the snake when they were bitten. Which I thought was fair enough if I was being beaten over the head with a stick I'd bite too

Yea, I would probably die in Australia, Africa, or South America. I would have an urge to catch any snake I saw. Used to have a pet Carpet Python for about 10 years until I went into the Army at age 18. Bought him at a reptile show when I was 8 years old. From my experience, I haven't found anything to really deter a snake from going somewhere other than extreme heat or cold. If I saw wild snakes every day, I would be a happy camper.
