Wicking beds & high mineral content water

Hi All,
I have looked into wicking beds as a solution for arid veggie beds but wonder if long term there might be issues with the artesian water. My pot plant saucers have a hard crust of minerals built up over the years.

Sadly I don't have an answer for this though. Hope someone else does!

I would think gravity would pull the deposits downward, because they are heavier. Deep top watering from time to time may help flush the deposits.
With the wicking, are you using cloth or pipe? For my own curiosity.
