Hi i'm Andrea,
i have planted the potatoes on june 20 when the temperature is about 20/25 °C (68/77 F) during the day and minimum 15°C (60F) during the night.
This year may and june rainy and colder than other yeas, for this reason i have planted late.
June is the month between spring and summer.
During the summer the temperatures reach 38 °C (100 F) and the plant have the direct sunlight from about 11am to 6pm . I think the averange temperature in the summer is 33°C (91F).
The soil is wet by irrigation and mulc (!? when you put some dry grass over the substarte ) WhatsApp Image 2023-09-01 at 14.41.27.jpeg
During the day the leaves wither (?) and the older become yellow. WhatsApp Image 2023-09-01 at 14.41.32.jpeg
its normal that plant react like this? The irrigation io too little ?

Thank you

Maybe @Geo or @JP 1983 know more on that aspect.
But from what I have been told, sweet potatoes are frost sensitive, so they don't like temperatures below 10C, which is fine in your case. And they prefer temperatures above 24C according to a book I once read, if I recall correctly.
The leaves turning yellow could simply be a sign of aging leaves, but it could also be under- or overwatering or nutrient deficiency.
Do you know what your soil consists of (example; sandy or clay)?

i know mark did a video on sweet potatoes before. I grew some slips for late wife a number of years ago. Think you are in the ball park on normal temperature Mandy 24 to 30 C ( 75 to 85 F ) I believe is the recommended range. All i know is there are a number of cultivars and hybrids some drier like the Japanese version while some here in the states are moister. all i know is sweet potato pie yummy or baked and butter and cinnamon added.

Looking at the photos the withered leafs and view of soil directly beside the sweet potatoes it is to dry. The soil no cover in mulch looks full dried out which in affect will wick water away stick you finger down full depth to knuckles in soil and see how damp it is. a couple recommended solutions you may be getting to harsh a sun try erecting a sun net so it start to shade and filter the sun light to shade at about 3 in afternoon high heat and full sun with cause plants to respire loosing moisture , plus extend mulch atleast a foot past the plants not just direct under the leafs. The last photo is before any mulch ?? That whole area of exposed dirt i would mulch no less the 3 to 4 inches deep so no visible dirt what so ever and run weep or drip irrigation. With full mulch and late after noon shade you should see a marked visual better healthier look and growth.

The precise timing for planting red potatoes is 6-8 weeks before the last frost in the north and in September to February in the south, when the temperature is below 85°F to avoid yield loss.
