So, last year I plant out a couple of raspberry plants / bare root canes, had wonderful foilage only growth last year as expected. Cut the canes back to about 30cm off the ground, good dose of mulch and fert and this spring they went nuts and come summer started throwing a large volume of lovely raspberries.....very happy with that so went and bought two more to fruit next year....but I did notice something and I can't find an answer to my question on the web.

I noticed a week or so after I pick the raspberries, leaving the hull / white core on the plant, I get new raspberry regrowth on the old hull /centres. They aren't perfect and can be mis-shaped, smaller than a first one picked but taste just as good.

I sure this must be normal for raspberries (and don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining), but I never suspected this would happen so happy to get a second gen raspberry from an old hull / bud. So, is this normal??
