I just filled my new beds (Like Mark's) and now I'm letting the soil rest with light running water. I am using the Hugelkultur method for the base in the metal bins. On top of that, there's Backland Prairie soil - native to the area. Next, I have sandy loam mixed with Peat Moss. Once it's settled, I'll add in organic material and mix it in. By next weekend I'll be ready to seed, and the following weekend I'll put in fall leafy greens.
Not sure if my pictures attached - If they have: 1) My older wood bins. 2) Two small bins that are for the wife's annuals. 3) New bins and tiny tunnel (where my in ground garden used to be). 4) Stone bin for chives and trial herbs, Metal bin (More will be added there in spring). The blue bin is my rain barrel. I have goldfish in it to eat the mosquito's and larva.
I moved to the high bins to make it easier on my back. I'm getting long in the tooth, and higher bins make it much easier to garden.....but not fill, but the hard part's done.
