so started a new batch of yogurt last week, got new machine old one gave up ghost after 15 years of use picked new one up through homedepot $39.95 cheaper then scamazon . and wouldnt you know it my original culture was moot so bought a store brand yogurt aand used some for culture. was Hanafords brand it has the definite greek yogurt character slight tangy and subtle hint of sourness like a traditional real greek yogurt it set up nice and firm with very little whey in jar, added a skight hint of strawberry flavoring to it . i did notice on minor issue and subtle graininess to it which i am sure is one of two thing i think i heated the milk a touch to fast also i think the yogurt i used as culture may have had some additives in it so next batch back to my normal culture i have ordered. anyone have suggestion to any yogurt cultures they have tried and feed back. of flavors , quality and any issues

My dad always storebought his cultures from kits and they worked just fine. Maybe making your own starters could be fun 🤔
ya one i had was a culture from years ago but something happened got some aitborne wild yeast of something in it and it didnt smell right

Yeah don't use it if the smell is off. It's not worth risking your health for.
Do you have any cheeseries near you? They might be a good bet.

so cultured is on track a nice smooth thick and creamie very subtle and mild. using whole milk and tsp of powder milk per cup of milk, culture also contains probiotic bacteria so milk is heated to 170 for 40 minutes cooled and then culture added and processed at 102 F for 30 hrs. , finished and refrigerated for 4 days , loose liquid amounted to about 4to 5 drops that pour off top out of a small peas size depression in top of yogurt

added just a drizzle of a sweetner on top but as mild as the yogurt is coming out even that tiny drizzle id almost too much
