ok this was scribbled out by mom on a note card a long time ago for me. I have been looking in ever spot possible to find it this has been handed down over the generations and i can remember the recipes my grandmother had that was written out by her mother. the sugar as example said " take your loaf of sugar and shave off two full hands full "

1 cup butter softened
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
2 cups buttermilk or milk + 2 tbls vinegar or lemon juice
4 cups flour
2 tsp baking soda

cream together butter - sugar - eggs
add flour and baking soda until a nice crumble mix and milk and finished mixing.
wraps in plastic wrap and place in cool refrigerator to rest for an hour before rolling out crust

shortening can be used in place of butter for flakier crust

My Note - i also add in pie spices in crust when i make my apple pie.

My bulk mix of apple pie spice ( you can omit the clove for some it can be over powering )
1 cup Ground Cinnamon
2 tablespoon Ground Nutmeg
1 tablespoon Ginger
1 tablespoon Ground Allspice
1 tablespoon Ground Cardamom
2 teaspoon Ground clove

Mix place in air tight canning jar and store in cool dark location ( i have a vacuum seal for jars )

add 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon to the crust
1 to 1 1/2 teaspoon to the fill depending on type of apple
at baking sprinkle sugar and a pinch or two over the top
makes for a unique taste in what some refer to as " southern butter rolls " ( they look like cinnamon buns but so much better ) and a different twist on regular cinnamon buns
