No I haven't left the planet!
I'm in kawana scut i think its known as.
Just got a septic shoulder infection from overuse.
First flush out failed, so another due tomorrow! Yay!!
Be here another week with 4 wks recovery after.
Too much pain for one old lady!
So my replies will be absent for a while me thinks.

Look after your plants at this dry time of year folks.
And lets all dance for rain. My garden will surely need the help.

I know, not nice at all. Hospitals are no fun especially when you are the patient and in so much pain. Praying it all goes well and you recover quickly. You will have to be a good girl when you get out and take it easy.

It's so dry, where is our wet season, bring down the rain from up north.

So the news is not good.
Golden staph infection, 2 trips to theatre, still recovering from second.
IV for 12wks antibiotics. But no carer so hospital panicking!
They might hand me over to gympie hospital which is a lot closer to where I live.
So boring here with nothing to do.
I tried to buy some basic craft supplies today from the shop downstairs, but no joy as people don't do craft in hospital anymore.
Its all this darned phone thingy now.

Wow not good. Pity we didn't leave closer and could have helped each other out. Can't any of your children come and stay to look after you for a few weeks. Or a friend. Neighbour pop in to check on you? Do they have some sort of carmer program through the local hospital?

In an ideal world Kate all those things would be possible I'm sure.
However, in my world my kids don't give two hoots, my brother isn't interested because I don't live my life to his liking and the neighbours avoid contact with their fellows.
I've been advertising for a year for an older couple to live on the property, she helps me a little as required inside while he helps a few hrs weekly outside.
Im offering free parking for a mobile home, van etc un my new shed with power supplied, with access to the garden as needed, grow food to sell for extra income, as well.
But no takers. No-one wants to lift a finger these days. They want $40hr +++. I can hardly fund myself let alone pay others who think they are worth so much.
Those readers here who own land know the true cost, its substantial.
When I offer use of my land for free, that has to be worth something.

Anyway its a sign of the times I guess. I do get lots of replies from men who are either gold diggers or looking for one thing, so I have to delete all of those pronto. Ive built protocols into the reply process and if they don't follow those, I know its not a genuine reply.

I don't think any of us live in an ideal world. Families don't you love them.

Do you have a link for the add for your looking for an older couple etc. I am on a few FB camping/caravan groups and I could share the link. Maybe you could offer it for a shorter time frame.

I've shared the add to 6 different travel/camping/caravan pages, Hope something comes of it for you.

I also have a very close female friend I have told about who may contact you. She would only be able to help out for a short time when you come out of hospital but that's up to her and you to work out. :)

Well I was transferred to Gympie hospital last night.
Today I asked my Dr how soon I'd know how much movement I'd get back in my right shoulder and arm, expecting him to say something like 2-3wks.
His reply shocked and slightly disturbed me, 14wks!!
They won't even start physio on me for another 3wks at least.
Apparently because I didn't have a full reconstruction there's no way to know for sure which soft tissue components will begin working again.
Wow, it gets more complicated every day.
I had no idea. The fact it was a septic joint was bad enough, but now all this additional.
Hopefully some rain will occur soon so I can begin replanting my dead garden. Just doing that might help my shoulder remember muscle memory.
Although, since the source of the infection is as yet unknown, they might ask me to stay away from planting stuff and handling compost.
I'll be wearing this IV antibiotics pump thingy for many weeks. Last thing they'll want is for me to get too close to contaminants.
Hopefully I go home early next week where a nurse will visit daily to manage my pump.
All very serious!

Sorry to hear that. I don't think it's a good idea at all for you to be getting into too much gardening. The main thing for you to to rest and heal, everything else can wait.

It's times like this that make you take stock and reevaluate things and accept what can and can't be done and what you are able to do. Some hard decisions might need to be made.

Must be frustrating not knowing the source of the infection. Our bodies can be so fragile.

We are actually in the same position with my husband. He saw the specialist today first time since the lung collapse and being in hospital. They can't confirm what the cause of his allergic reaction is too. They said it could very well be the mulch/compost but they can't confirm that. What they did confirm was it was going to be a very long recovery for him, even years.

He was on a lower dose of the pills he is on and his issues with breathing etc came back, so he is back on a stronger dose and will have to remain on that for sometime. In his case he either takes the pills or he dies, a life threaten issue so very serious indeed. Dr said he may never get back his full lung capacity.

To think all these illness could have been and most likely cause for doing gardening/mulch/compost., Mmmm makes you wonder about the whole thing.

In our case we have had to accept he won't back to normal for sometime, we have now set this year as a time for rest and recovery. I have pulled out all veggies and I won't be going any for the year. Just keep the fruit trees going and the native garden.

The rest doesn't matter, I can go back to the veggies when I want, they are seasonal so doesn't matter. Family and health come first.

Clisat you need to look after yourself and put yourself first not the garden. :)

Well all of a sudden on friday morning some bright spark decided I could go home right after the person who could have taken me home completed their visit and left! An hour later I was calling her back the 35ks to pick me up from gympie hospital. I'm home under the Hospital in the Home project where a nurse comes daily to my home to change the antibiotic cartridge, do obs and generally keep an eye on me.

It was a bit premature as it's turned out. I struggle to shower without wetting the iv line bandage. Of course I got out to the garden with my scissors to do some dead heading and promptly over did it! It was the bending that got to me in the heat after being in aircon for so many days.

Horses have forgotten all the careful training I'd put in place to help me over the years. Well meaning people have been dropping in without my permission to give them a carrot but not respecting that my horses are trained to a very high standard of liberty work. So bad habits have been ignored to the point that now I can't direct the horses to act in a particular orderly manner at a certain gate to help me in this time of weakness. Horses are worse than kids in that when given an inch they'll take well more than the preverbial mile! They'll drop their bundle and go bucking off into the sunset going "he har we're free"!!! They then take a whole lot of extra effort and cadjuling to drag them back into line. An amount of energy and psychological commitment I won't have for ages yet. Going off half cocked when not 100% only causes more confusion in their training.

Luckily I left the new mango tree with its net over it so it's first crop of 4 large delicious fruit remained intact. So yesterday I was able to feast on a lusious just ripe fruit.

However, the pawpaws didn't fair as well and dropped their young fruit.
While I was away, the beans had a fantastic crop so I'll try to do something with the semi dried seed. The pigeon peas are bearing heavily because the parrots are feeding elsewhere, so I think I can make a dish using both types of seeds if I can muster the commitment to stay engaged in the process long enough to get the dish cooked! Unfortunately heavy pain medication doesn't lend itself to long periods of a single endeavour! ;)

But I'm getting enough leafy greens, tomato, cucumber and a bit of this n that to have lovely light salad at each meal along with a couple of poached eggs. Much nicer than the hospital fare. Plus there's a really large food forest mound stuffed full of new potatoes i can access too.

There's been a few small rain showers, mostly at night, but nowhere near enough to take over from hand watering. However, the moisture levels in the atmosphere are building so the wet season will start anyday now. I just hope it starts gently until I've got my feet again and my arms move.

All very exciting!

@ClissAT Wow what a terible time you have had. If I was closer would have helped. There are a lot of full time caravaners who would love to stop travelling for a few months, so hopefully you get some answers.
Try not to keep the garden going too much, you will undo the good work so far. Mentally you are strong but a weak body will get weaker.
Set your plans for 2020, and take stock of what you want versus what you can, collect and organize seeds, grow basic salad and go sq.foot in a small area, raised if possible. Get some craft together also in case you have to go back lol. Sending much love and prayers for you.

Subject to change without notice!!

It
was going too well to last. Back to gympie hospital yesterday in the ambo, trouble with the pic (iv)line.
Now have a canula in left hand effectively making me armless!(but not useless as it turns out)
Changed the ABs also after pathology results.
HITH nurse now has to sit with me at home each day for an hour while this new ab goes in.
Actually I'm feeling better today already because I got up early and just now have a banana bread coming out of the oven.

Ive also worked my way around the veranda with scissors and cut away all the marording vines attempting to take over.

I've even got the vacuum cleaner sitting ready to do a little here and there.

Ding, ding!! Banana bread is ready!
