Hello.

I planted some radish earlier this year, and they dont look like anything I have seen on thebinternet or youtube.

What have I done to get them this way? Did I just get male radish? 😅
Can I eat it? If yes, do i eat the whole thing, except for the leafy part?

It can depend on the specie of radish you grow. What temperature ranges did you grow it and and in what kind of soil?

In the meantime I did find these two websites that could possibly help too.

Thanks for your reply, my chickenclub radish isnt too bad in taste. It should have been normal radish seeds. So I sent a email to the place I bought them.

Funny thing is, all of them looks like this. Every batch, with different starting conditions.

You could try experimenting with growing them in different soils and with different fertilisers perhaps?

Are they a specie that works for your climate? There are many species of a plant which can grow much different depending on what climate they are grown in.

how long have/had they been in the ground for? going by your first picture I can see one starting to split.

It looks to me like an unusual French Breakfast radish. Is the soil possibly compacted for them to grow so much more out of the ground than I’d expect?

French Breakfast is my go-to radish. It gets to a similar diameter as other varieties, but with the extra length I feel I get more edible root from a row. This year I didn’t get much of a crop…they were slow getting started, then the weather got hot and they bolted. We’ll now wait for later in the season to plant again for cooler conditions and the watermelon radish which normally gets planted later.

I hope you get it figured out.
