Hey everyone,

I'm from Melbourne, Australia, 28 y.o., male, and enjoy candle lit dinners and long romantic walks along the beach. The dream is to move out to a nice house on a few acres with a strong NBN connection, the missus, and 50 kids. As all aussies know, the NBN connection is even less likely than the 50 kids, but aim high right?

In all seriousness though - I'm recently married and live in the 'burbs with my wife, we've started to grow some basic veggies while growing our understanding of the whole permaculture process. I got into all this when I saw where Australia was heading morally and economically, and I want my future kids to have a good life and not be swamped in hyper-materialism, so I made the decision to try to learn & strive for self-sustainability before the poop hit the fan.

It's a slow process, but gotta start somewhere :)

Been loving Mark's YT videos, the mix of humour and practical information is distinctly Australian and I find it easy to digest.

Looking forward to learning from you all!

Hi Matthew welcome to the forum. Hi Matthew, yes I hear your frustrations also!

If we don't get out of the big cities, grow our own food and become less reliant on the web, etc we'll become cannon fodder!
Its strange that we need to get less reliant on the www because thats where the brains trust and all the good info is held.
However its also where all the bad people live!
So learn what you can while you can without having to sell your sole to the www by giving away all your personal data.
Also make networks with like minded people, you mentioned permaculture.
Have you already found your local group?
Go to their monthly meetings, weekend working bees, seed savers days, etc. You'll learn so much you will gasp!

I'm still learning about all of this, and I tend to take it all with a grain of salt... but this is one of those topics where you know the truth because you get healthier crops, less diseases, and feel yourself getting happier. I suspect staying offline would contribute to being happier, but I don't want to stick my head in the sand... just be prepared should be the worst happen.

Haven't connected with local perma-culture groups yet but I'm keen to do so. Down here in Melbourne there aren't many greenies who aren't super-political, which puts me off.

Looking forward to chatting to you all and learning what there is to know,

Matthew

G'day Matthew, I share your concerns!

Growing food here at home has really helped our family and especially our boys in so many ways. Back to basics is sometimes the best way to clear the head from the circus around us and focus on what's really important.
