I found this neat trick here in Taiwan. it's a sticky spray the spray on to something yellow. Fruit flies have to check it out and their days of attacking my vegetables is over. Here is a picture of the little can of Magic.

Looks like an interesting concept - bit like fly paper... Have you tried it yet or heard if it works? Does the sticky stuff break down eventually (biodegradable/non-toxic).

I use it, I spray it on plastic yellow bottle. The best thing I can see all the fruit flies that are caught. I was very impressed with it. I will document it the soon as it is almost time to put it up again. I also use green net bags that I place over the fruit. which also works well.

That's great!

We get fruit fly bad here in Western and Eastern Australia (2 main kinds, the introduced Mediterranean and the domestic Fruit Fly) there are traps and other methods to try and control them but it's difficult and probably not very effective IMO anyway. Here's another thread http://www.selfsufficientculture.com/threads/fruit-fly-trap-commercial-type.243/

I'm keen to see your testing/documenting on the spray because it looks like a really simple method of fruit fly control. I haven't seen anything similar here in Oz except for the paint on stuff where a poison is painted onto the trunk of the tree which supposedly attracts the fruit fly and kills it.

No problem, I will be putting up the sticky traps, after the plum rain stops, I used this last year and was very surprised how many fruit flies are around.
