Ok so last fall i started a few seeds from a pepper cross i made as experiment between a chili and an anahiem pepper( which is also a chili type) . well the basic plant did not get massive and i grew in a 5 gallon deep water set up for hydroponics .... threw it in the bucket lid and filled the the bucket. Plant reached a total height for foliage of about 27 inches tall and bushed out about 50% wider then in photo , it was loaded consistent sized fruits of a most beautiful orange pepper.
The peppers fresh picked have a very rich sweet smell with that same full under tone of pepper scent you would expect from a sweet pepper. anyone picking these up and thinking them sweet or mild are in for a serious surprise. I love hot pepper and can handle so extreme peppers including ghost peppers . A little nip off tip of one of these maybe a piece of maybe 4 or 5 mm in size first impression was nice subtle a light mild taste, that's when the surprise kicked in . Now mind you i did not get any of the center membrane or seed just outer flesh of pepper in nip so was still in the sweeter mild part of the pepper , when the heat suddenly crept up and hit it me it was OMG what on earth did i make for a cross breed. My mouth 10 to 15 minutes later after the fire died down was just plain void of any sensation of telling if spicy or bland. As you see in photos i held a few in palm and took a picture .... palm later itched and had slight redness skin. after that i wore gloves to pick the rest and placed dehydrator on outside deck to dry them , sliced and froze others and roasted one as a test. then diced it up very fine in an 8 liter kettle of chili and beans it turned out great just the shear volume cut and dispersed the heat it next time i'd add two maybe. Roasting they took on a nice nutty very aromatic tone and the heat was more noticeable in scent.
Yes i will grow more from seeds next season to see if the cross stayed the same or similar but all i can say is it was much more of a surprise in character then i expected and i would put them up there in ranking of heat equal on more then many i have tried including some hybrids of ghost pepper and definitely extremely hotter then either of the two original parent plants.
