Hello Mark, and everyone.

I'm Karen from Picayune Mississippi. We moved to the south 12 years ago but moved to Mississippi a year ago to a 3 acre property in the middle of a cattle farm. And that's when I started looking into what gardening tips and tricks could help me be self sufficient.
And I found MARK! I've been mesmerized ever since. His videos are such a great resource of information on all things gardening and being self sufficient. I'm so grateful to all the time and effort he puts into not only providing for his family through gardening, but also creating content for the rest of us.
THANKS MARK!! You get a big "happy to be here" thumbs up! :-)

Hello and welcome! I can also testify that Mark's videos are informative and a little addicting LOL I've been watching them pretty much non-stop while I wait for the weather clear up here. Hope we can all learn something from each other :)

Welcome to the forum @KarenButcher !

That sounds like a lovely story towards how you got into gardening. Yes! There are many videos towards the reasons why Mark started gardening, and we are most grateful he is sharing the progress and process with us.

Have you done any gardening in the past, or are you joining in fresh?

Hello Mandy,
Thanks for the warm welcome.
My father was a gardener, they grew all sorts of things when I was a kid. I have grown gardens in the past, mostly in Ohio. I could never get the hang of gardening in Louisiana. Such a different climate and soil composition.
So, since moving to Mississippi I have decided to start fresh. I am using raised garden beds (mainly cause I'm old and can't crawl around on the ground any more) LOL. I'm trying to learn more about the scientific aspect of gardening, soil amendments, plant types, wildlife needs, beneficial plants and being self sufficient.

Thank you for the warm welcome, BeccaBoo. This is the first gardening forum I've ever belonged to, I anticipate much learning and sharing. :D

That souds lovely.

I grew up in The Netherlands (temperate) so now living in sub-tropical Australia was definitely a big change. So I can completely understand that.

Raised beds are great on the back, no matter the age, haha. I'm intending on setting mine up, and I'm "only" 25. My back already doesn't like me bending over, hah.

@Lunai and myself have worked on a little list of plants for the medicinal garden. We've all been pretty busy so there hasn't been much done with it lately. I'm hoping to get back into it once things calm a bit. Same with some other article threads I have been working on.

Hi there Karen, and welcome to the forum!

Right now I'm awfully busy with first my child beeing sick, then me beeing sick and the garden season is picking up pace around here. So no time atm to work on articles but I'm still looking everyday and am happy to help where I can 🤗

And no one likes bending over thath much 🤣 I'm just 30 and my back screams at me after weeding the 20m flowerbed 😅🙄
Cheers
