I live on 22 acres of rocky hillside in central Victoria with my husband and our fur child Sebastian. We are off the grid and I would like to learn more about gardening and hydroponics. Our rainfall here is semi arid most of the time and growing veggies is a challenge water wise.

Hi and welcome ballamara, hydroponics sounds like the way to go for you, another, short term thing you could try is wicking pots? I make them out of 15litre buckets and just drill holes a little way up from the bottom so there is a 'reservoir' of damp/wet in the bottom of the bucket. I usually fill this area mostly with branches and leaves and as they rot in the moisture they feed the bucket and it's plant!
Hope to hear more of how you get on and what you do!!
