Hi all!
I've been growing food at home for a number of years now. A motivator for me to get into it more and continue growing was the freely-given seedlings a passionate grower of a Grow Free movement in my local area used to raise and release.
He raised kale, beetroot, etc. etc. and it was the no-cost aspect which made a way for someone on a budget, with limited success in growing seedlings, the ability to get into this hobby, this craft, this lifestyle.
I really hope to become so good at growing seedlings that I too have an abundance of them and help others to start this journey also. I have saved lots of seed... That's no problem, but I do not sow well. (both in sowing seed and in sewing thread)
Seed scattering has been one of just a few approaches I've taken; throw and forget, hoping something grows. Another is planting seedlings somebody else raised; most often free, but on occasion purchased, but they're not cheap/cost-effective it seems.
I personally find that getting the medium to raise seedlings outside of their home (in a seedling container/punnet) is hard to get right and mostly that I don't make the time to baby them... Which I'm guessing they need to be.
I've also tried mixing potting mix with seed raising mix and putting that it toilet rolls on a tray, putting a seed or 2 in each and wetting them regularly enough. Didn't work so well.
Hoping to learn more about propogating effectively.
