    Hello,
My name is Sherry Robitson and I live in the Central Texas Hill Country. Gardening here is a challenge. We have very alkaline , rocky soil, and very few chill hours, so gardening is a challenge. But gardening is my passion...

Welcome Sherry from all the way in Queensland, Australia. Tough climate, so you're going to have to stick with more more hardy plants not afraid of the warmth. All the best with that.

    Welcome Sherry.
I am very interested in how you deal with your alkaline soil.
    Is it very gravelly?
What do you do to change the pH?

I am right in the middle of Texas in a very small town named Kingsland. We are about 60 miles northwest of our state capital, Austin.

It is very gravelly. I have found the best thing to do as far as flowers is to do what God intended, stick with native plants. It will best serve the wildlife in the area, doesn’t have to have soil amendments or fertilizer.
With vegetable gardening the soil must be amended with lots of compost and manure. I am trying to go with all raised beds which is a lot easier. I also have 2 Keyhole vegetable gardens I enjoy.
