Today was a wonderful day...my favourite wine store delivered to the house. They do sets of either “cottage cases” for summer or “holiday cases” to cover the Christmas season. Anyway, I was putting away the bottles (into the wine rack...) and I made a point of looking at each label. Among the white case (each case is 3 bottles of 4 different wines) was a Sauvignon Blanc from Australia - Trentham Estates River Retreat - and a portion of each sale goes to support wetlands of the Murray River. I look forward to trying the wine, but I love the fact that the winery believes in making a positive impact. I can see myself purchasing more of their product if it’s available here, just to support those efforts.

If anyone is interested, the local wine store is Jones & Company. I’ll be letting them know I appreciate that they are carrying this product.

Last night we had a Zoom tasting of wines from South Africa. One of the choices, aside from being a very pleasant Chenin Blanc / Chardonnay, also has a program of giving back. There’s a tree care program that supports local groups. They also have an ethical bent that requires the purchases of their product to certify that they will treat their staff well (reasonable pay, etc.). I really like seeing this going on. The wine is from Spier.
