They produce it as a crop in countries like Vietnam so you can definitely do it. There are a few videos on YouTube showing how they trellis the plants for optimal production.
I have just finished writing a post about dragon fruit. Most of my fruit are starting to ripen now (mid-winter) but we've eaten several already over the past few months.
