Hi I'm from Colorado USA.

I was wondering how often do you change the dirt in the raised beds? The wood has to break down doesn't it?

I never change mine but always add new compost, chook pellets and blood and bone, and continually grow a different crop each time.

Same as Kasalia I never change the soil only add to it as it breaks down. This is how the best soil is made and maintained!

Ditto...I used to dig in manure & compost, but this year I’m going to try “no dig”. I’ve already discovered that commercial “compost” can be problematic though (the “premium quality” we bought unfortunately crusts very badly, and the next grade down seems very hydrophilic...so despite loads of watering the seedlings all died.) Clearly I’m no “Charles Dowding”!! Think I’ll add some mushroom compost and aged cow manure to it and see if that helps.
