Hi everyone,

I have been obsessed with the self sufficient me videos for awhile, so I thought I would join your community.

My husband and I have purchased 5 acres on a lake as our future retirement home. He has graciously game fenced a 50 x 50 foot area for me to garden and do “whatever I want to do.” We have built a chicken coop in one corner and a large raised bed from cinder blocks in another. I added a fruit tree and some blackberry bushes. Bees will be coming in late March. I have future visions of meat chickens, quail and turkeys.

I have gotten a little carried away with everything, but I am having so much fun, and I feel so much better eating organic home grown food. I am trying to learn more about canning and preserving beyond just making jam. (I am going to try sauerkraut for the first time this weekend.)

I can’t wait to read everyone’s posts, but I had to stop by here first and say g’day!

Welcome to the forum.
We have done similar, though on a much smaller scale. Nothing beats picking the veggies straight out of the garden, or getting the eggs fresh every day.

G'day @Nycolette and thanks for joing us! And also following my vids :)

5 acres is a good sized property being easy enough to manage but still plenty big enough for animals.

It's not hard to get carried away and start empire building with self-sufficient living that's me all over lol... it can be a lot of work but it's heaps of fun.

I hope you keep sharing journey here on SSC.

Hi there Nycolette & welcome.
I had a little chuckle at your statement regarding empire building!
Yes it very addictive & easy to get completely carried away.
But so much fun when everything goes well.
Its one of those 'nice' diseases to have!
