Hi there everyone. I live in SE Ontario Canada and recently found "self-sufficient me" on You Tube, which brought me here to this forum. I have been raising a mixed flock of heritage breed laying chickens in my backyard for a number of years now, and have recently set up a small covey of quail in a an outside house/pen. I'm new to quail, and have been reading up on everything I can find on raising quail in a more natural setting. Our climate will present some challenges, I'm sure, but hopefully nothing that is insurmountable.
Looking forward to chatting with all you fellow enthusiasts!

Thanks for the welcome, @Mark and @Steve .
We have had a few learning experiences with our quail so far, and are likely to have more, but so far have been able to come up with workable solutions. I will be posting about some of the misadventures and lessons we learn s we go, for those who on this forum who may be interested in how it goes in our climate. Our biggest challenges still lie ahead, of course, when winter really hits, along with the even shorter daylight hours, frigid temperatures, winter storms and snow accumulation.

Sorry about deleting my first reply. Like I mentioned I am new to forums and hope I don't mess someone up :) It sounds like we will face similar winter challenges with our poultry. I look forward to reading how you are doing.

Hi Sharann. We've already faced a few challenges here with the changes in the weather, but it's all good so far; we've been learning and adapting as we go. I plan to write a follow-up post on our quail adventures soon.
Welcome to the forum! I look forward to reading about your poultry adventures too.

HI! I am just east of Rugby ND, which is considered the geographical center of North America. Small rural area, just how we like it.
