dragon fruit shoots

Yeah, because you are growing the dragon fruit up that post I would remove the right side bud/shoot and leave the straight one to continue up. Tie the vine to the post at the segment - this is the strongest point and will toughen as the plant grows. Once the vine reaches the top then leave it shoot from wherever and branch out.

At the top of the post it could be beneficial to have some steel mesh or a horizontal cross to support the branches so the end result looks like a mushroom single stem with an octopus top. I hope i have explained it ok...

Definitely a dragon fruit :) Most commercial df are self-fertile and I would say it's a good chance your plant comes from modern stock. Hand pollination is easy to do also if you are worried about fruit setting naturally. Having a few vines is a good idea though because fruiting numbers can be unpredictable so having at least two plants is good insurance. I harvested some of our df today (yellow variety) I'll take a few pics and post before we eat them.

Yay I am glad I got me self a dragon fruit hehe. Yeah I have been trying to buy another one but no one has any in stock. Another person a block away has a dragon fruit growing all the way up in their tree also(must be a thing around here) just like the one in the tree I took a cutting from anyway I am going to ask them If I could grab a cutting surely they won’t mind lol well I hope. Yellow dragon fruit I have never had one they look so interesting are they similar in taste as the red ones?

I agree cuttings is the cheapest way to get a few more plants that's for sure. The yellow df are the best tasting imo but they do have thorns whereas the reds don't. However, the thorns are easy to remove. I got my yellow ones online. I have two reds and I have to say they still do taste great! It's just that the yellow is slightly sweeter that's all.

Hi mark how long does it usually take dragon fruit to fruit? It has grown pretty quick
