Here in the states we are fortunate enough to be allowed to hunt wild game in order to provide fresh, organic, free range, and sustainable meat for our families. After being self sufficient as far as fish meat is considered for almost a decade this is the first year I was able to become completely self sufficient as far as red meat goes too.

I am curious as to the hunting that is allowed in your country and if you take advantage of yet another way to be self sufficient. Thanks!

I believe hunting is allowed where I live as I often hear people about boar (or was it pig?) hunting.
I myself can't even kill a spider without feeling sad about it, so it isn't an option for me. But for those who can kill animals humanely, I'd definitely recommend it as you can get the most out of an animal that way, and control the wastage.

I grew up with hunting and wouldn’t mind getting back into it, but the Canadian government has really made it difficult to own firearms. Bowhunting is definitely easier to get into, but is a much more challenging method. We do get deer coming through our property and have snowshoe hares…in time I may consider giving the bow a shot, but I don’t see it happening in the foreseeable future.

That said, I do know someone locally who bow hunts…while it wouldn’t be self-sufficient, I could potentially get a little bit of venison from him in exchange for allowing him to hunt on our property.

Although firearms access is quite easy down here I still choose to bow hunt almost exclusively. Hunting is not only about food but also the experience and to me nothing beats bow hunting!

I would love to be self sufficient in ethically harvested wild game. The body is holding up the show at the moment. Hopefully can make it happen in the near future. Would be a great excuse for a new gun that's for sure

I'm in australia. My husband and I both hunt on nearby farms (our property is too small to hunt on). Technically we're varmint hunters, that's our justification for owning firearms.

We get mostly rabbits (we eat a lot of rabbit) but sometimes goats, pigs or deer. We also shoot foxes (cash in the bounties) and kangaroos. Legally you aren't allowed to eat the kangaroos.

We get most of our meat from amateur slaughter/butchering for hobby farmers. Alot of people get ibto raising animals for meat then struggle to process them.

So we kill and process animals and get paid in meat. We've made a lot of very good local connections this way.

Rabbits these days are sadly becoming a forgotten food !! ...... Great Feed and easy to farm/harvest or hunt .... sure you cant "Live" on them as the only meat as they dont have enough body fat to sustain your body ... but a great feed still ...(love a great curry rabbit)

Kangaroo here is hunted and eaten (WA) and they are EVERYWHERE !! ....
also A LOT of bush foods around here ... Bush potato is one that is great, Lilly pilly, Quandong and pig face go great with alot of game foods

Dont forget Fishing is another form of Hunting for your food !!

sooo many option available from Fresh water rivers, Dams, Mangrove's and Coastal/Beach fishing
as long as you know the basic seasons of most fish migrations coastal (beach) fishing can deliver 98% of the time !!

like this single fish was 9Kg's from 2 casts (West Australian Salmon) after gutting and filleting still had just under 8kg of fillets !! and this was not anywhere near the largest i landed on the beach that day !! (3 weeks ago)

I miss fishing...used to do it a lot and slowly got away from it as other things occupied time.

I will neither confirm or deny if any hunted roo ever made it into my freezer.

I will say that kangeroo (even the store bought stuff) makes fantastic jerky.
