G'day,
I have had a Tropical Fruit Tree growing for over 15 years. I do not know the name of the fruit. It gets there thousands of tiny brow flowers that the bees love. After about 10 years little green berry type fruit would form. Unfortunately they would all drop off. This year for the first time some are getting bigger. I have taken photos. I should have taken a photo showing the underside of the leaves. They are a beautiful golden colour.
I would appreciate it is somebody could tell me the name of the fruit. I would also like to know what I could do to same the fruit dropping off.
Cheers Perry

Looks like a fig tree Perry. Maybe Morten Bay? Although MBs generally get bigger leaves as they get older but that lovely yellow or rust colour underneath the leaf is a give-away.
Still a very young tree by the size. Maybe the seed was carried there by a bird or bat in its droppings.
The fruit are supposed to be edible according to Aboriginal writings but I think there is some sort of processing to do first.
Can you take a photo of the trunk so I can see the bark & the style of the tree from underneath please Perry?

G'day ClissAT,
Thank you for your reply. No it is not a Fig it is a Tropical Fruit Tree. I bought it with a Jack Fruit Tree from a Nursery.
The photos should help I hope.
Cheers Perry

Hi Perry, I think Clissat means Ficus Macrophylla, which has small edible fruit and is a rainforest tree, rather than your traditional eating fig fruit - Ficus carica. You can buy macrophylla as a plant but it's naturally a strangler fig. Yours doesn't have any buttressing but this could be due to its age. Google images of F. Macrophylla and see if that would fit - it has the gold/rusty underside to the leaves. Like all figs, they depend on a particular wasp for fertilisation.

Thanks Oscar for that clarification of what I wrote.
You did what I was thinking of doing but never got around to doing! ;)

As for being a star apple......WOW! that's the biggest star apple I've ever seen!
I grew up with them growing in the bush behind my house & they were scrawny thin trees that had a few fruit each.
I wonder then since it is such a big lush tree, if it is getting too much nitrogen to hold fruit?

Oh that's very cool Perry...they look like beautiful trees! And better fruit than a MB fig. Quite a few comments on Daley's site note that it's taken 10yrs to set flowers/fruit so maybe you're not doing too much wrong?
