Wow been a year since I updated the Community Garden, so as the Garden Competition has just happened again, showing you where we are up to. John raised $53,000 in grants so far which has enabled us to solar power with off grid batteries to the the pavilion, put in a kitchen, 2 tanks, hot water, a 12volt fridge and a pizza oven that is portable. Native Bee Hive, and a Tractor mower.

The Market gardens at Centro once a month are being manned by about 4 couples, which gives us all a break. Flowers are selling well so glad I thought of dedicating special gardens. Along with 2nd hand books, vegs as we have them, succulents of course always popular. Two new worm farms are being set up as well.

Wow Kasalia, such a grand looking community garden!
I love those netted beds! Sort of what I was aiming at achieving at my place but yours look better!
And that garden gate, reminiscent of an Asian inspired entrance with all those interesting bird houses along the top.
You've all been so busy, its a credit to your hard work and dedication!
Well done!
What happens to all the wonderful produce?

Thought I would update the progress of the garden, now 5 years old. New paths went in last month and J has now raised over $100,000 in grants. This means also a tractor and a ride on mower have been added. The tractor is great for mowing and turning the compost. The ride on mower has a little trailer so the ladies most over 70 can load it with soil or the 50litre water sprayer and cart that. Regularly now about 13 - 15 turn up each day, still,3 days a week.
Plans for more beds are happening for rent, and community, and an experimental hay bale garden is in the plan.
A new hanging gardens in 4th segment, where the hay bales will go has been successful.
The large arch to the bottom of the garden is now covered in passionfruit vines 4 varieties.
A market stall out the front is every Sunday, we do a sample but customers can pick their own with a supervising member. Last weekend we held our first yearly plant sale and raised $308 despite the rain and freezing wind.
A new contrainer will be going in next to the tanks, as an office and house the ride on. The biggest problem is the, lower half which fills with water when it rains so the citrus is being moved to the bank gardens. Next grant hopefully will be all about drainage.
It is a very pretty and productive garden, I quit as co-ordinator, and now a committee is doing it, and individual members are in charge of individual areas. It will always be my baby though, which is still growing.

Oh you can't imagine how much I love this! I wish we had a community garden nearer to where we live, as most are privately owned and inaccessible. Then again... they must've had issues with people entering and taking whatever they like.

It looks beautiful and I'm so happy for all of you that you got those grants! The new equipment should be such a big help, making gardening easier and even more fun.

I love the abundance of flowers throughout the gardens, it looks beautiful and I'm sure they have other benefits too. Are they marigolds, growing with the veggies? I also love the huge smile :D

I'm off to scroll through this thread as I already love the progress I can see by just scrolling up a little. It's amazing. You guys have done an amazing job, and I'd love to see updates on this!
