Had to do a trip to Brisbane so brought some Golden Nugget pumpkins down for our daughter and she made us a delicious pumpkin soup for tea

I love pumpkin soup. I make it with potato and garlic.
But due to critter attack I haven't grown a pumpkin in more than three years!:(

Hi ClissAT Pumpkin is one of our favorite dishes with soup, boiled or roasted and this year we had a very good return with the number of pumpkins we have in storage. We have enough to see us through 12 months and with a few extras to share with friends. We will eat the Golden Nuggets first then the Jap and Butternut and finish on the Jarrahdales. Dave

Forgot to put in the best of all hot pumpkin scones with a dob of butter and strawberry jam and cream. We will have to go and make some my mouth is watering just thinking about them. Dave

Nice! Fruit fly tend to smash our pumpkins. If we get them to ripen before spring here it's usually ok but into spring and the fruit fly sting the stalk end over and over until the hard skin softens. Buggers...

Hi Ray we love our pumpkin and in past years we have had Queensland Blues sitting in a shady spot on the verandah for a full 12 months and they were still perfect. Dave

I love pumpkin. Critter attack over the last few years have been a problem here as well. I am determined to win so I have to come up with new strategy.

I also puree pumpkin and freeze 2 cups to a freezer bag. Make pies and breads all winter. Soup doesn't look appetizing. May have to try it and see.

I love pumpkin butter, which is kinda like apple sauce, but it's made with pumpkin instead and it's very heavily spiced. It's wonderful on biscuits.

Also, try pumpkin curry ginger soup!

I'd like to grow pumpkins but the neighbor warned me that the deer ate most of his pumpkins last year. He had as many as 20 deer in his pumpkin patch at one time. I'll have to come up with a good deer-proofing system to manage. Any suggestions?

I use the patent pending Ruby system. (Ruby is the big one, the little one is still in training ;)) They haven't failed me yet!

There is deer fencing that you can buy and put up, but it seemed to catch more rabbits than anything else for us.
